Heinrich Klaasen proved to be the man for the tough situation once more, as he saw Durban’s SuperGiants to their third win in three matches with a well-crafted 64 off 41 deliveries to rescue the men from Durban after they had found themselves in a hole at 34/4 after 6.1 overs.

Klaasen, speaking about the difficulty of the surface, said, “The wicket was up and down. Had to go a little old school and go hard for our runs. Had to graft.” His approach exemplified adaptability, demonstrating different strategies to maintain a competitive run rate. “Just different ways to get eight runs an over. Need to run your twos so fitness is important. Then you pick a bowler with a favourable match up,” he explained. The star batsman also attributed his recent success to his preparation, stating, “I think the hard work I put in before this competition – my game plan and my bat swing. My mental game as well, I’ve been staying humble with my feet on the ground.”

Keshav Maharaj, the winning captain, reflected on the advantages of playing at home. “We want to make this place a fortress but need to focus on a daily basis,” he stated. His strategic decision-making was evident in the use of the dry wicket first, which, combined with Klaasen’s impressive innings, set a formidable target for the opposition. Maharaj’s own performance with the ball was a highlight, and he expressed satisfaction with his efforts: “I’ve been working really hard, and enjoyed getting that reward.”

On the other side, Faf du Plessis, the captain of the losing side, provided his insights on the game’s dynamics. “It was an average wicket for both innings,” he observed, acknowledging Klaasen’s exceptional performance. Du Plessis highlighted the need for individual brilliance in such challenging conditions: “Individuals can pull you. You need someone to play that one good innings… and the confidence runs through in the team.” He also emphasized the importance of learning and adapting to different venues, with an eye on their next game at Paarl
