When 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi lit up the IPL with a record-breaking century for Rajasthan Royals, the world watched in awe.
But alongside the praise came whispers — was he really 14? Could someone so composed, powerful, and technically sound truly be in his early teens?

In India, where age-fudging controversies have plagued youth cricket for years, skepticism was inevitable. However, this time, the BCCI and Vaibhav’s camp were ready.

✅ Bone Tests, Documents, and BCCI Clearance

According to Manish Ojha, Vaibhav’s childhood coach at Zenith Cricket Academy, every box has been ticked to confirm the teenager’s age.

“He has cleared all age-verification protocols, including a bone density test conducted under BCCI supervision,” Ojha stated firmly, calling the allegations baseless.

The BCCI, known for strict enforcement in the aftermath of past age-related scandals, has certified his age after rigorous checks. This includes:

  • Document verification (birth certificates, school records)
  • Medical evaluation (including advanced bone density testing)
  • Independent cross-checking

“We are not here to satisfy everyone’s curiosity,” Ojha added bluntly. “The system has certified him. That is the end of the discussion.”

🎯 “He is an asset to the country”

The coach was adamant about protecting Vaibhav from harmful speculation.

“Vaibhav Suryavanshi is not just a cricketer — he’s an asset to the country,” said Ojha. “It’s our duty to shield him from unnecessary negativity so he can focus entirely on his game.”

Indeed, the 14-year-old’s performances have done most of the talking. Scoring a century off just 35 balls in only his third IPL match, Vaibhav has proven that talent, not age, dictates readiness.

🚫 International Cricket — For Now, He Must Wait

Despite his stunning IPL exploits, ICC rules could delay his international debut.

Introduced in 2020, ICC regulations stipulate that a player must be 15 years old to play international cricket, unless special exemption is granted.
Vaibhav, who turns 15 in March 2026, misses that cut-off for the remainder of this year.

However, cricket boards can apply for exemptions in cases of exceptional talent and demonstrated maturity — something India may explore if his form continues.

🇮🇳 The Road Ahead: 2026 T20 World Cup the Big Target

Coach Ojha is convinced that Vaibhav’s next big stage will come soon enough.

“He’s already shown he can handle pressure at the highest level. I believe he will be ready for Team India at the 2026 T20 World Cup,” Ojha predicted.

📌 Conclusion: Case Closed?

For now, cricket’s governing bodies have spoken. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is officially a teenager — and officially one of cricket’s brightest young stars.

The age allegations, though inevitable given his jaw-dropping performances, have been handled swiftly and decisively. What remains now is for the young man to continue letting his bat do the talking, as the cricket world watches the rise of its newest prodigy.
