Former Indian batter, Mohammad Kaif has doubled down on his insistence that India were the best team in the World Cup. In conversation with Star Sports, Kaif commented that he “can never accept that the best team has won the World Cup. The Indian team is the best team on paper.”. Australian opener and two-time World Cup winner, David Warner took exception to this statement, highlighting that the game is not played on paper.

The story did not end there, however, as Kaif remained insistent that India, by virtue of having won ten straight matches heading into the final were in fact the better team. He claimed that while Australia won the World Cup, the fact was India won 10 games in a row and had the better batsmen and bowlers.

While India were certainly the class of the competition heading into the final, it is hard to buy into the argument given how resounding Australia’s win was.
