Cricket South Africa has announced their squads across all three formats for the upcoming home tour against India, showcasing significant changes and notable inclusions.
The Proteas, who recently made it to the semi-finals of the World Cup, aim to continue building on their recent successes. However, they will be without Quinton de Kock, who is set to miss the selection due to his commitment to the Big Bash League.
In a refreshing change, the team has introduced maiden Test call-ups for Tristan Stubbs and David Bedingham, signaling a focus on nurturing new talent. Additionally, Western Province pace bowler Nandre Burger has earned a spot in all three formats, a testament to his impressive form.
The squad management has decided to rest key players Temba Bavuma and Kagiso Rabada for the white-ball segments of the tour. This move is likely aimed at managing player workload and exploring the team’s depth.
A significant milestone is marked by the inclusion of 23-year-old all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana, who receives his maiden ODI call-up. His selection underscores the team’s strategy of integrating young talent into the international arena.
However, the squad will miss the services of Anrich Nortje, who continues to recover from a lower back strain that sidelined him from the World Cup. In a positive move, Kyle Verreynne has been recalled to the squad, adding strength to the team’s composition.
A unique strategy has been employed for players like Coetzee, Ngidi, Jansen, Rabada, and Bavuma, who will miss the third T20I to play a round of First-Class cricket, balancing their exposure to different formats.
The tour’s schedule is as follows:
