Former South Africa allrounder JP Duminy has been appointed head coach of the Sharjah Warriorz for the 2025 season of the International League T20 (ILT20). Duminy, who is also South Africa’s white-ball batting coach, continues to build on his post-retirement coaching career, having taken up the role with the national team in late 2023.
Duminy’s illustrious playing career spanned from 2004 to 2019, during which he became one of South Africa’s most dependable allrounders in white-ball cricket. Alongside his international success, Duminy made a mark in several major T20 leagues around the world, including the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Indian Premier League (IPL), and Pakistan Super League (PSL).
After retiring from international cricket, Duminy transitioned smoothly into coaching. His first major role was with South African domestic side Boland Rocks, and he later went on to coach the Paarl Royals in the inaugural season of the SA20. His success in these roles paved the way for his appointment as the head coach of the Sharjah Warriorz.
Expressing his excitement about the new role, Duminy stated, “I am delighted to take up the challenge of being the head coach with the Sharjah Warriorz. This is an excellent set-up, which is vibrant and full of optimism and ideas for the upcoming season. We are looking forward to building a strong squad for this year, and we are excited to see what lies in store for us.”
As Duminy prepares for the ILT20, the 2025 season is set to be a competitive one, clashing with other major leagues such as the Big Bash League (BBL) and SA20. Nevertheless, Duminy’s experience in high-pressure tournaments and his growing reputation as a tactician make him a valuable addition to the Sharjah Warriorz’ coaching staff.
