Former Proteas fast-bowling legend Dale Steyn believes rising cricket star Dewald Brevis is ready for bigger challenges beyond domestic cricket.
Steyn expressed his thoughts after watching highlights of the ongoing One-Day Cup, taking to social media to praise Brevis’ impressive form. Brevis currently leads the tournament in runs scored, amassing 362 runs across six innings at an outstanding average of 72.40 and a blistering strike rate of 157.39.
Just watching some highlights of the domestic 1 day cup here in SA.

Dewald Brevis.
Guys, this young man is too good to just be playing domestic cricket.
I’m not sure how he fits into the Proteas set up, but he deserves a mention.
He CAN play!
Following a quiet start, where he managed just three runs in his opening match, Brevis quickly found his stride, delivering scores of 102, 42, 75, 57, and an unbeaten 83. These consistent performances have significantly contributed to the Northerns Titans securing a playoff berth.
Brevis had also been a standout performer in the SA20 earlier this year, accumulating 291 runs in 12 innings for the eventual champions, MI Cape Town. He achieved an impressive average of 48.50 and a remarkable strike rate of 184.17.
“I’m not sure how he fits into the Proteas lineup right now,” Steyn said, “but he absolutely deserves recognition. He CAN play!”
Brevis, a former South Africa Under-19 star, made his senior Proteas debut in August 2023 during a T20I series against Australia. He struggled in his initial outing, scoring just five and zero, and hasn’t appeared for the national side since.
